Blog Assignment #4 (Due: Feb 16, 11:59 pm): Discuss how the knowledge spiral framework interpret the knowledge creation activities in Nucor Steel.

It can be said that Nucor steel is a great example of the knowledge management. Nucor steel used tacit and explicit to the fullest. Nucor is the largest producer of steel in the United States. But more than a steel maker, they are the world's foremost steel recycler, and one of the largest recycles of any kind. The way that Nucor steel used the tacit knowledge based upon knowledge and not expressed through words is phenomenal. It takes a lot for a steel company to be the largest producer of steel and the largest recyclers of any kind. Then Nucor had to interpret the explicit knowledge. Nucor has obviously hired some intelligent people. The way that the workers were able to problem solve any obstacle that was thrown at them is outstanding. It just goes to show that if you work as a team you can accomplish anything at your company.

The four modes of knowledge conversion is socialization, externalization, internalization, and combination. Each of this plat a critical role in you want to interpret all four of them in a company. The socialization is the process that transfers tacit knowledge from one person to tacit knowledge in another person. Externalization is a process among individuals within a group. The combination is the area where information technology is most helpful, because explicit knowledge can be conveyed in documents, email, data bases, as well as through meetings and briefings. Then the last is Internalization. This is the process of understanding and absorbing explicit knowledge in to tacit knowledge held by the indivdual.

Blog Assignment #5: Post a blog to describe the key points and lessons learned

Building the Next Generation Company: Innovation, Talent, Excellence

- The pillars of the future of a country
- John Cambers has grown the company from $1.2 billion annual revenues to $23.8 billion
- Next Generation Company & Next Generation Custom Relationships
- Virtual Meetings/Support
- Growth Opportunities

This was a really interesting video. I can say that I learned numerous lessons learned during this video. The future of a country is based on education, infrastructure, innovation/market transitions, supportive government, and collaboration. The way that next generation deals with customer relationships. It needs to be customer driven, sales support, engineering, service, interactions by collaboration, pilot programs, and pay entire leadership team. The way that virtual meetings/support are starting to expand. Cisco is running 2,500 virtual meetings a week. The way that Cisco is offering the different types of networking is amazing. Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees will be the first sport teams to offer live network streaming. The business architecture of collaboration for Cisco starts out with vision, strategy, and execution. The way that Cisco works is speed and skill.

Blog Assignment 3 (Due: Feb 9, 11:59 PM): Search and find a healthcare service provider website that has information about how that service provider uses information technology to better their services. Post an entry onto your blog.

The company that I found is called Healthcare Providers Service Organization. This is a company that offers professional information to a wide array of healthcare and counseling professionals including: Counselors, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Pharmacists, Fitness Professionals, and over 100 other healthcare professionals. The way that information technology betters their services is by having a website that allows you to navigate through all what they offer as a company. Also, by having an updated website it allows the user to search for a personal insurance plans in their state. If the website wasn't updated every so often, then this would pretty much go to waste. Another way that information technology betters their services is the security. Whenever you make an account as an user the http:// turns into https:// which allows security throughout the page. This make it difficult for hackers to sniff out their user name and password.

Blog Assignment #2 (Due: Feb 3, 11:59 pm): Write and post a blog to discuss the implications of the video Systematic Irrationality for knowledge management.

Accoring to Wikipedia, Irrationality is cognition, thinking, talking or acting without inclusion of rationality. It is more specifically described as an action or opinion given through inadequate reasoning, emotional distress, or cognitive deficiency. When I first watched this video by Dan Ariely, it had me thinking about what he was accomplishing. Dan had a bunch of college students from elite colleges all in one room. Dan was able to show that people make predictable decisions, which in most of the time was incorrect. It goes that show that a lot of companies use irrational decisions for knowledge management. We can learn from Dan that companies need to make the right decision not because it seems right. I seen from first hand experience some companies that I use to work for use irrational decisions. I didn't say anything to the manager, because I felt it wasn't any of my business.
